Posted on 1st August 2011 in Latest News

POLICE arrested a Singaporean for failure to pay his bills in a hotel owned by Atimonan, Quezon Mayor Jose F. Mendoza.

The suspect was identified as Daniel Hee Han, 33, of 134 Kiang Shing Apartment, Jurong, Singapore, and temporary residing in Tagaytay City.

Mendoza filed the complaint to Atimonan Municipal Police Station after Hee Han failed to pay his bills when he checked out at 9 p.m. on July 22 from Kingfisher Hotel.

During police investigation, the suspect said he was robbed by a certain Raquel Alva whom he came to know through the Internet.

He claimed that he asked Raquel to be his tour guide on his trip to Alabat-Perez, Quezon on July 21 but before they proceeded to the area, they rested at the Grand Terminal in Lucena City. When he woke up, Raquel was gone.

Hee Han said Raquel took his laptop computer, a Blackberry, a cellphone, a wrist watch, his travel supporting documents, bank cards and P20,000.

The foreigner then continued his travel until he reached Atimonan where he was arrested.

Police are conducting follow-up investigation into the incident.

Posted on 21st July 2011 in Latest News

ATIMONAN, Quezon, July 5 (PIA) — The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (MDRRMC) in this municipality is set to purchase equipment for the use of the council and other volunteers during calamity.

MDRRM Officer Allan Perez said the council will procure more than P6 million worth of equipment once the request for funding have been approved by the municipal council. On the list for procurement are rescue truck, response and rescue tools and equipment, storage van, generator set and other gears essential in saving lives and properties in time of disaster.

The budget, according to Perez will come from the 70 percent of the five percent calamity fund for 2010-2011.

Perez added that some barangays along Maling River are frequently flooded thus the purchase of equipment is timely for these areas recurrently experiencing flood during inclement weather condition.

In addition, the MDRRMC will conduct a series of trainors training on water search and rescue, fire fighting and rescue, vehicular extrication, setting-up and monitoring rain gauges, and first aid response.

Other trainings slated this year for flood-prone barangays are disaster awareness, first aid and basic life support, evacuation center management, and emergency drills in preparation for other man-made or natural calamities like fire, earthquake and tsunami. (Carlo P. Gonzaga, PIA-Calabarzon)
