ATIMONAN, Quezon, July 5 (PIA) — The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (MDRRMC) in this municipality is set to purchase equipment for the use of the council and other volunteers during calamity.
MDRRM Officer Allan Perez said the council will procure more than P6 million worth of equipment once the request for funding have been approved by the municipal council. On the list for procurement are rescue truck, response and rescue tools and equipment, storage van, generator set and other gears essential in saving lives and properties in time of disaster.
The budget, according to Perez will come from the 70 percent of the five percent calamity fund for 2010-2011.
Perez added that some barangays along Maling River are frequently flooded thus the purchase of equipment is timely for these areas recurrently experiencing flood during inclement weather condition.
In addition, the MDRRMC will conduct a series of trainors training on water search and rescue, fire fighting and rescue, vehicular extrication, setting-up and monitoring rain gauges, and first aid response.
Other trainings slated this year for flood-prone barangays are disaster awareness, first aid and basic life support, evacuation center management, and emergency drills in preparation for other man-made or natural calamities like fire, earthquake and tsunami. (Carlo P. Gonzaga, PIA-Calabarzon)
